Energiya Buran - Eine russisch-jugoslawische Begegnung

Interview mit EnergiyaBuran
Energiya Buran - Eine russisch-jugoslawische Begegnung

;-) Sandalette: Hi! I'd like to thank you very much for taking time for my interview. How did you come together? Can you tell me the story about it? Energiya Buran: We have met on MoM. One of us placed a song which contained vocals in Russian, vocals which the other one liked as being from Russian origin. We started conversations on this foundation, and soon found out that we were pretty much on one line, both in life, general ideas, as in music. Some later we also met in real in a studio where we exchanged ideas and laid foundation for our first song, 1949, which did pretty well here on MoM. Sandalette: Did you meet already or does your friendship and co-operation only happen per email? Energiya Buran: Unfortunately, our cooperation always happens via Internet. The distance between our living places is too big to be able to work together in person constantly. Yet, our songs have proven that this is not a problem for the quality of our productions, or for us personally, as people who understand each other do so regardless the distance. But in our opinion, and we hope in yours, the quality of our productions doesn't get any lower because of this Sandalette: Why did you decide to make Trance-Music and not any other style or genre? Energiya Buran: We never decided to do a certain kind of music. It just came out as a Reflection of a certain feeling. We think that electronic music can transport energical and deep emotions very well. We are trying to make music which will not capture only people's feet, but also their minds and souls - to make something unique and distinctive which will move something in people. We think that trance is very fit for this Sandalette: What would you think is the difference between the music and possibilities for an artist to break through in your countries than that in Germany and Netherlands? Energiya Buran: In our countries of origin the electronic music is in a state of rebirth and flourish now. There are not too many published artists, but the music the amateurs make is very loved by the public and generally innovative and good. Because of that, in our countries of origin people are much more open to new, innovative and different-from-the-mainstream sounds, and so are the (usually small) record labels. Since the scene is much smaller, it is easier to break through, whereas the labels in the West usually only go for the things they are pretty certain will attract a large audience, but which are actually in general of mediocre quality.
Sandalette: It seems to be important for you to use themes about historical occurrences where often a message is hidden. Why do you think that Trance-Music - which actually was simply made for dancing - need such messages? Why is it that important to you? Energiya Buran: We are always looking for a good, deep atmosphere - an emotional one! There is no better way to spark an emotion then to pick up something which has a message that people understand. In our songs, it is the music which is making this atmosphere, not the verbal messages. They only raise the impression. In fact, as we see it, the history of human mankind is moving forward, so does our music. Sandalette: You both left your countries to live and gain a footing in Germany and Netherlands. Desisted from the situations in your countries - what do you expect from the market in those countries. Why did you just choose those? Energiya Buran: Both in Germany as in the Netherlands there is a very strong dance scene. The labels go for what will make the most money in their eyes, and usually that is not the quality music for the scene, but something Britney Spears listeners could appreciate too. Another thing is that in Germany and the Netherlands there are so many good producers that it's hard to get your way trough - you really need to be lucky more then good to get it going. As we play our music in clubs (a couple of times in Amsterdam) the public is outrageously positive - still the response from the labels has been up to now rather mild. We figure they make their money anyway, and the more people will buy Boozy Woozy CD, the less chance we have to get our stuff our there. Sandalette: Can you tell me the circumstance which leads you to a new track. Do you have an idea first before you start to compose or do you experiment that long until you create a sound which you tell about "Wow - that sounds cool"? Who decide the theme and what the track deals with? Energiya Buran: It takes a short genius moment to create a good track This had everything to do with inspiration. We don't want to make uninspired tracks, just to make a track. We want to make tracks which will raise feelings AND energy, and inspiration is decisive for this. Inspiration can come when you're playing around with your music equipment, or sitting in a bus or on the toilet. It is the matter to capture this inspiration and make something our of it. After reviewing how the music itself sounds, we decide a theme for it, and do the finishing touches, usually in form of the vocals. It is the music that sparks the emotion in us - and the emotion which does the rest. Music is a work of art and not a piece of technology
Sandalette: Can you tell me something about your future plans? Energiya Buran: We are looking forward to sharing our music with the broad audiences, and we want to work on this. We are ambitious - next to having our vinyl releases, we would like in the future to host live sets at major and minor events; as long as the public appreciates us. But of course we try to keep down to earth. Everyone knows that you never have the guarantee for success. So we regard music as a great possibility to represent our special style - not more and not less than this. Sandalette: Now you have the possibility to tell something you always wanted to talk about… Energiya Buran: Well, we are almost offended by the state of the scene today. The majority of the music released is technically perfectly done but misses a identity, inspiration, and soul - it's a robotic body. Something people can move on to the beat, just like most other songs of the pop culture - where the lyrics exist but either don't mean nothing or no one knows them. We look back with great nostalgia to the golden era of Trance music, the 1990's, in which many prominent artists did their life's best works. A couple of examples to point out are for example Push with his Universal Nation, Oliver Lieb with his works under many pseudonyms, DJ Tiesto in his early days under his many pseudonyms and cooperations, Cygnus X, Jon the Dentist, etc etc. Many of these artists operate today too, but either they don't get the attention they used to or they sell their artistic soul for money, and resort to producing robots and mergin into the Breezer-drinking-Britney-Loving-Barbie-Looking pop culture. This is a bad thing for the music, as there is no other inspiration in there then money, which produces robots, not music. And as mentioned - Music is a work of art and not a piece of technology! Sandalette: So I'd like to thank you very much and wish you all best for your future. Energiya Buran: No problem! If you still have some questions, feel free to ask us! :) greetings, Energiya - Buran
