On a foggy crossroad, out in the pouring rain
I saw a little boy standing, by the middle of the lane
His big black raven eyes had soon filled up with tears
And with a voice like cracking ice I said "What are you douing out here?"
He cried: "Don't you know me, are you cold like a stone?"
And with a sudden pain in my heart I saw his face - looked like my own
He said "Where have you been? All those endless years!
Why have you been leaving me out here all alone with my fears?"
And as he started to get closer, still frightened and yet shy
I couldn't hold my tears inside, couldn't help, but cry
Out there in the pouring rain
Where we started to talk to each other - on that foggy lane
He said: "I wanna tell you, I've been feeling so alone!
All the things I had to go through, since you went away from home
It's been hurtin' me so bad, when you left me here in the rain!"
"I know, I know, I know", I said, and I'm sorry 'bout your pain.
But I'll dry your tears, it's gonna be alright!"
And the we started walking together through the rain - me and I
