We came as pioneers
In schools of pointed boats
The first to settle here
Tried our hands at routes unknown to man
Fishermen at sea since time began
For military fools
Notoriously blind
Corruption is the rule
Brandishing their guns, drove us away
Gambling dens and bars now line the bay
All these tourists are footnotes at most
in our long history
I won't let foreign cash arrest
my canoe down on the shore
Ten more years till my children will dive
to the sunken hotel
Someday soon when the sea is at last
coming back to my door
We know the oceans rise
Much faster than they claim
Asleep with open eyes
We're an age-old folk - not out of touch
Seeing through their lies we'd thought as much
A stone's throw from the 'zone'
We're busy building up
A safehouse of our own
Looking like a fort it scrapes the sky
Rests on wooden piles, they're twelve feet high
In schools of pointed boats
The first to settle here
Tried our hands at routes unknown to man
Fishermen at sea since time began
For military fools
Notoriously blind
Corruption is the rule
Brandishing their guns, drove us away
Gambling dens and bars now line the bay
All these tourists are footnotes at most
in our long history
I won't let foreign cash arrest
my canoe down on the shore
Ten more years till my children will dive

Someday soon when the sea is at last

Looking like a fort it scrapes the sky
Rests on wooden piles, they're twelve feet high
