Mein neuer Song hat sich die alte arabische Geschichte der Verabredung in Samarra zum Vorbild genommen. Die Geschichte, die vorallem in der Version von W. Somerset Maughams bekannt wurde, fand ich schon immer faszinierend.
Hier also meine Version.

Appointment at Samarra
1.
The merchant sends him to get goods
At the market down in Bagdad
when the servant returns
He is trembling and feard
With a face as pale as bedsheets
Master I was jostled by a old man there
And I know he came to take me
When I turned around and looked at him
His face was death's reflection
Refrain
You can't flee your fate
You can not escape
When Your destiny is set
You just can accept
You can't run away
When Death gots a plan
'cause Everybody's got an
Appointment at Samarra
2.
The reaper gave me a certain look
And raised his arms to thread me
I ran like hell to get away from him
Master now I beg ya to help me
Master lend me a horse for I will ride away
To avoid the fate that hunts me
I will go to Samarra where the prophet raigns
where the Reaper could not grab me
Refrain
You can't flee your fate
You can not escape
When your destiny is set
You just can accept
You can't run away
When Death gots a plan
'cause Everybody's got an
Appointment at Samarra
Solo
3.
The merchant gave him his fastest horse
And the servant dugs his spurs in
As fast as the wind then he headed north
To Samarra where he want to hide thenä
The mearchant met me at the market then
And asked me about his servant
Why did you threat him with your bony hand?
Why did you try to grab him?
Refrain
You misunderstood
How I behaved then
A job was to do
But I came not for him
I just was surprised
To see him right there
For him and I got an
Appointment at Samarra
You'll meet me at Samarra
