Kathy[Steroside Magazine]: How are you guys? With who im speaking now?

You’re speaking to Simon (guitar). I’m doing very well, thank you. First of all I’d like to thank you for giving us the opportunity to do this interview. All of us appreciate that very much.

Kathy[Steroside Magazine]: You Guys formed in Summer 2003 under the Name ,,Breaking News,,
why did you changed your Band name?

In 2003 we started doing NuMetal and stuff. Over the years and after a bunch of member changes each of us saw, that “Breaking News” did not fit any longer. It represented neither us nor the music we played at this time and still play, which is some kind of Metalcore with Emo and Hardcore influences. So we had to overthink our name and find one, which really fitted.....


Kathy[Steroside Magazine]: And who Idea was it to called the Band: The Haven Theory?....

It was the idea of our bass guitar player Christoph “Jensain” Jansen, who was inspirated by Mark Z. Danielewski’s novel “The House of Leaves”, in which one character, the scientist Haven, describes a house which owns its inhabitants and not, as usual, the other way round. We liked this metaphor and projected it onto music: What could be better than music or a song, which is so amazing, that it “owns” its listener? In my opinion, this is an aim which every musician or artist in general should work for.....

Kathy[Steroside Magazine]: You Guys only changed the Name? or are some Band Members new too?....

.. ..

No, everything stayed the same. Old members, same style, same songs…….nothing but a brand new name!....



Kathy[Steroside Magazine]: You dont have a label, but i have to say your music is really awsome, who of
your guys is writing the lyrics?

....

Stephan is writing the lyrics exclusively.

Kathy[Steroside Magazine]: I read at the 15.November your First EP ,,The Art of Sharing Lies,, is coming out,
why this name for the EP, has it a special meaning? and the Songs too?....

“The Art of Sharing Lies” is also one of the songs on this EP. First of all we decided us for this title just because of its esthetic value, which means that it sounded right for us. There was no need for discussing the title, everyone just knew that it had to be “The Art of Sharing Lies”. If the songs have a special meaning is a question, which we give back to our listeners. I’m sure, that Stephan gave all the songs a special meaning within the process of writing. I think everyone of us has a very subjective way to interprete and to deal with the songs. For me personally, “The Art of Sharing Lies” in a way is social criticism. Like politicians share lies to achieve or conserve their power, they have to present it as “art” to get support in society. As you see, it’s very subjective and personal…....

Kathy[Steroside Magazine]:I really like the sound, growling in ....ur.... songs, how long are u guys into the music?....

Each of us is into music since about 10 to 15 years. Each member earned experience in earlier projects, somewhere between punkrock, metal, emo, poprock….just everything. But none of us ever did a thing with so much passion like The Haven Theory.


Kathy[Steroside Magazine]:Have u a big Fanbase? ....

.. ..

I don’t know if you can speak of a fanbase…surely there is always a special crowd when we play in or around our hometown Düren (near ..Cologne..). But actually we want to enlarge our horizon and play everywhere, where is a stage, especially in cologne, but also in every other city in whole ..Germany.. (or ..Europe..?! Or the world?! ;) ). We know that it’s hard to play at a place, where no one knows you. But if just one person in the audience liked us, the gig was a success.....

Kathy[Steroside Magazine]: How was the first time on Stage for u?....

.. ..

I remember the first time on stage with The Haven Theory (then Breaking News) as if it was yesterday. It was just unbelievable. I never felt so much energy before- within the band as well as within the audience. It was fucking amazing. And it is getting better every day.....

Kathy[Steroside Magazine]: And have u ever toured with a big famous Band? if yes, what expierence was it? and if not: with which band
would you guys love to going on tour?....

.. ..

We supported some good german bands like Machinemade God, War from a Harlots Mouth and Farewell to Words. It is always great to play with bands which you can learn from and because of this develope yourself. But there are so many good bands we would like to share the stage with if we could. If I am allowed to dream a bit, it would be absolutely wonderful to play with Killswitch Engage, Unearth, Parkway Drive, August Burns Red……but this list could be continued endlessly.....
